Ghost in the Machine

The term "ghost in the machine" is British philosopher Gilbert Ryle's description of René Descartes' mind-body dualism. For centuries humans have tried to demystify our reality, to sacrifice magic in favour of physical and mathematical rules. And science has been quite successful in doing so. One might argue that there is no magic left in our western society. However, when algorithms and mechanical movement start to become none deterministic, not foreseeable by the observer and neither by the constructor, or when technical complexity increases to a level at which not a single human being could explain what is happening, a new kind of magic is introduced into our world. Ghosts seem to reincarnate into our machines.
